A toast to Indian Summer

Summer to me spells the spirit of joie de vivre. Hours and hours of beach time, frolicking on the virgin sand, and comfort clothing, which is up-to-the-second chic. Summer to me has always been steeped in nostalgia and takes me back to the much simpler and carefree times when people valued leisure, never apologized for excess and style reigned supreme. For my spring outing, I had a delectable tea party on my visual radar complete with pink macaroons, cupcakes and endless rounds of martinis. It’s hard to picture summer without tropical fruits and eye-soothing clothing which brings out optimism, nonchalance and positivity.

This season, I was inspired by the always-on-trend pastels, the transformative power of the exuberant florals and an unmistakable boho spirit taking the fashion landscape by storm. The genre of luxe bohemian has always been a turn-on for me as a designer and this season, I pictured a carefree stylista exploring and expounding different pockets of the earth. Hence came the classic nautical stripes, which have been the major story for both spring and fall in India and also on the global runways. Therefore I thought of extrapolating this key nomad insignia as the recurring motif while etching out my creative mood board. I softened the stripes with the addition of flirty florals and added flounce and cut-sleeves to inject high-octane drama.

Picture a Riviera girl sunning on the Amalfi coast in her tasseled blouson dress and a pair of flip flops and you’ve read my mind! A heady cocktail of 80s and 70s is emerging to be the ultimate spring story – and I derived the key trends from these two overpowering decades in the fashion history. Picture exaggerated shapes, nipped waists and peek-a-boo dresses and you’ve pretty much captured the Maheka Muse. Every piece in the line glories thanks to its mix-and-match and extremely wearable appeal. This summer is all about playing dress up with the entourage of your besties and clashing prints and patterns and rediscovering your own personal style. From the soul searing organza and tulle to the frothy chiffon – each look narrates a visually sumptuous story of its own. The colours I’ve incorporated are palate cleansing – from the ice blue to the blush pink. The line is my fitting tribute to today’s evolved fashionista who enjoys having fun with clothes and accessories, marries style with comfort effortlessly and never has a dull moment, no matter what!
