My Summer Break

Summer Breaks are all about heading out for some great R&R to a fun & chilled out destination. It’s also about exploring and opening up to newer vistas. Read my blog for ‘My Summer Break’ story and my shopping indulgences for some of the season’s latest must haves…..

Like every year, this summer too, my husband and I took off for our annual vacay to our family in London & Miami. Every year I look forward to summers as I enjoy my visits to both these places – discovering new zones & new activities to do. Shopping around, going to the new districts, engaging in exciting sport activities and visiting art museums is a different experience altogether. Although my vacation started with my bags arriving late in Miami, (received them after 3 full days ) I was thrilled once I got them eventually.

1I love the very relaxed vibe of Miami, it’s simply great for R&R. The energy here is very athletic with people being very sporty & vivacious. Very fashionable. People here are very conscious about their diets. There are a lot of health programmes and plenty of vitamin drink stores. Everything here connects to your diet and lifestyle.Miami is so multifaceted – each year we discover new things. Hiring jet skis, swimming on the beach or doing an activity is something so very cool. I enjoy the pulse and feel of this city.

One of my best experiences here was doing a sunset yoga class by the bay. The whole experience of doing sun salutations at the beach is simply awesome – breathing this pure air is so rejuvenating. People had got their pets along too and while we did our inhales & exhales these cutie pooches sat staring at us. I so love this. The entire experience altogether was very refreshing & I will definitely go for another class. Being a yoga follower it was nice to see how ubiquitous it has become.

Another interesting class I did here was at Orange Theory. It’s a functional training class. There are about 20 people who train together under the instructions of a trainer. It’s like doing a circuit class. The highlight of this class is that it takes our heart rate up and down constantly. So it elevates your goals and keeps you constantly going. The adrenaline rush is very high which is actually great for your metabolism as it helps burn fat.

It’s also very pet friendly – you can see people with their pets everywhere, be it the beach, the shopping districts or even the pub. Being a pet lover – I simply love this!!!

The shopping here is awesome. My favourite is The Design District and the Bal Harbour. Lots of cotton dresses, big sleeves, bright prints & a riot of colours.

Dressing here is a combination of bohemian yet very fashionable. People are mostly in shorts. It’s definitely dressy but smart casual. I too love this easy mode. During the day I team my denim shorts with my espadrilles or gladiators. It’s comfy and I can walk in them throughout the day. A tote and your big shades is mandatory as it’s extremely hot here. Since the off-shoulder trend has been a craze around now since 2 years, here too we see lots of it. Embroidery is everywhere – from your clothing to your trainers – you see flowers in thread work all over. Tassels is another trend which is reigning all over.

2Shopping in Miami is awesome. My favourite picks from this trip were a pair of Gucci’s iconic gold embroidered bee sneakers and the Kylie Jenner matte liquid lipstick. It’s truly a secret weapon – long wearing, soft, giving a fuller look. Shades of warm pinky nude and the Candy K were my indulgence. The other simply too die for were the raw hemmed embroidered crop jeans from Paige. I got the vintage washed ones with military inspired patches and a raw hem. Adding to my collection of white shirts I picked up a super stylish crisp Dsqared one. I loved the stylish use of the lacquered bunch of safety pins all in a row on it – very chic. A statement pair of wedges to add to my wardrobe is the Knotty from Kurt Geiger that I got. Matte gold, very chic and versatile – perfect to give comfort to the sole and the elevation – just right !!! The oversized square shaped gold metalled frame embellished with black matte stones Can Eye Can Eye from Fendi were straight from the runway – too sexy for me to not have picked them up. Of course your boudoir isn’t complete if you do not have the Goyard. I love their totes specially the way they initialise it for you making it so personal and sporty. A perfect everyday bag and the best travel bag. I also picked up my M initial from Fendi. It’s brass metal M charm can be hung on any of your beauties. The dyed mink fur trim adds the spunk – Loveeee it.

We visited some really nice places here called Villa Azur, Baoli, Watr at the 1 Rooftop, SLS and The Fine dining at the Faena hotel.

This city offers you so much ease and comfort. We Look forward to it every time. The beautiful blue ocean with some amazing yachts docked & the lovely white pent houses with all its greenery makes for a very pretty picture. This is what Miami is all about – sunny beaches to chill & party.

4On our way back we halted in London to visit friends and family . London never stops to amuse me. Every summer a new place springs up in vicinities like Mayfair and Knightsbridge. This time the most “It” place was “SumoSan Twigga”. Very posh and a must visit. The pulsating music and the yummy food – it was simply heavenly. I loved the Black Cod and the Wasabi prawns.

I love visiting the Victoria and Albert museum. They always have such interesting shows and exhibits. This time I got to experience the Balenciaga – Shaping Fashion exhibit. On display were over 100 of his garments and 20 exclusive millineries – very interesting. Many of his iconic pieces such as the “sack” and the “envelope” dresses that eliminate the waist entirely are style staples today. The exhibit also included his original baby doll dress, envelope dress and cocoon coat silhouette. A master of architectural design, the exhibit was a true tribute to his incredible creations. I was truly overwhelmed to see, touch and learn so much about his beautiful work.5

From fashion indulgences to sporty matches – London had so much to offer. I saw the much awaited India-Pak final of the Champions Trophy at a local pub .The dampener of the final seemed less depressing as I enjoyed my high tea and the scrumptious scones with the clotted creams on the lush and verdant golf course of “The Grove.”

The holiday was a complete one and I have returned with so much to reflect upon. Until next summer, I shall hold on to the memories of this trip.
