Dressing with a Twist

This time she is different. This time she is decidedly veering in a new direction which is not quite conventional. She is assertive & strong yet soft, tender and sensitive. She wants to soar the skies and shine with her own individuality but she knows the earth will always ground her. She is the bride of 2015 – a modern Indian girl who is sexy, beautiful yet coy. She is well travelled and thus aware of her surroundings.

I admire the way she is ready to opt for an amalgamation of Indian silhouettes with Western sensibilities. She wants a sensuous twist to look her best. Today the whole traditional dressing has become all about dressing with a twist.

So does that mean you will see colors other than the traditional ones? The answer is a big fat YES! Colors form a crucial part of the wardrobe of the new age bride. From red to hot pink, burnt orange to emerald green and even royal blue, you will find it all.

This new cool bride is the mascot of avant-garde styles and designs. She wants traditional colors but with sexy low cut necklines. She wants the voluminous kurta but with daring colors. She will put on the adornments of Victorian era and yet stun you with royal rich Indian embroidery on her embellished lehenga.

For me, she is all about the change. From making statements with head turning and adventurous looks to opting for destination weddings where there is flounce and flowers. This girl is spirited. At destination weddings, you will find her choosing from limes and canary yellow to rose pinks and peaches to embrace the climate.

If you ask me if this is all the 2015 bride is about? I will say she is much more. As is evident from this year’s India Bridal fashion week, the 2015 bride is all about oomph and style, color and attitude, drama and innocence, power and vintage.

Fashion has always reinvented itself. This year gold and mirror work are ruling. The bling factor with Gota and Tilla embroidery, Resham knots and Chantilly lace, Swarovski crystals and Zardozi motives also have grabbed everyone’s attention.

I have always ensured that the detailed craftsmanship rules to every inch and finesse. I love to play with a wide variety of fabrics – from the suppleness of chiffon to the sensuality of the chantilly lace and tulle, from the aristocratic elegance of velour and silk to the raw texture of chanderi – they all mesmerise me and I advocate the use of these to the bride of today.

But of course one cannot neglect the make-up. It sets the mystifying look. From smoky eyes to orange lips, blushes of peach to nude gloss, burgundy lip to the perfect brow, manicured gel nails to exaggerated blue mascara, all enhance our bride’s charisma.

All these elements put together give her an alluring attitude. The look on her face will explain it all. She has waited her entire life for this big dreamy day. She knows she is in her best attire and is looking her finest. She is well aware of the compliments that are going to come her way. She is the perfect today’s bride!
