Dissecting travel chic

June has been a month of the much-needed travel, endless shopping sprees and in the process, rediscovering myself. That brings me to the often-debated-and-discussed topic in fashion – ‘travel chic’. Airport style is something which has always intrigued style arbiters across the board. When one dissects travel chic, supermodel Rosie Huntington Whiteley’s leather tights, suede boots and sunnies come to mind instantly. However, no one comes close to the ultra-stylish Beckhams when one dwells upon airport style – fashion’s unrivalled first family comprising David, Victoria, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper swear by made-to-measure and give bespoke a completely new meaning. David’s trench coats and Posh’s oversized sunnies and turtle neck jumpers have become epochal over the years.

Key is to get the basics right and keep the ensemble clutter-free. One can’t be fidgety and uneasy on a long flight. The trick is to marry chic with effortless ease. One can’t go wrong with a nautical striped tee or a neutral knit sweater, which will go with everything and also keep you warm in the air conditioning. Invest in Miu Miu’s round-frame crystal-embellished, gold-tone sunglasses. Thigh-high leather boots or ankle-length suede boots or platform heels work well and add to your height without compromising on comfort factor. However, with sporty chic raging, a pair of high-top sneakers or converse lace-ups are a safe bet too – they go with almost everything under the sun. Gucci’s fur loafers make for best travel companions – soft and furry and give you comfort of a pair of bedroom slippers. A cashmere neck scarf is a chic way to layer up and the way you tie it around can take the ensemble several notches up. If you want to avoid the shredded denims route then go for luxed-up sweatpants and layer up the look with a souvenir bomber jacket. Add a leather tote to dump your wallet, keys, passport, a notebook and vanity kit for a cool finish. As far as accessories are concerned, you can count on Dolce & Gabbana fruit earrings and Rosantica’s Pastelli gold-tone, multi-stone necklace. Don’t forget to pack Frasco Mirrors double-sided travel mirror and Lanvin’s Caran d’Ache pen to take down beautiful vacay memories.
