New Year means a brand new closet, a refreshing new personal style and some nifty finds. It’s time to create a new style vocabulary, break away from the trappings of tiring ‘trends’ and de-clutter your already-exploding wardrobe. Isn’t ‘trend’ the most dirty word in fashion? Let 2017 be about cultivating your own signature look and let you closet be an ecosystem of new-age ideas, influences and inspiration. It’s time to replenish it with pieces, which will take you from Spring to Resort to Fall in a matter of a heartbeat. No need to hold on to those crop tops, which died a slow death last year though you can continue to play with asymmetry and invest in some cold shoulder pieces and dresses. The bralette has by far emerged to be the key SS17 staple with everyone from Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang reinventing it. Undeniably the ruffled bra has emerged to be the key closet essential this spring summer. Layer it with a duster coat and a pair of embellished denims and you’re good to go. Also, enrich your closet with one-shoulder and off-shoulder pieces as they aren’t going out any time soon. The classic boyfriend denims will be major and you can perhaps pair your strappy blouse with it and add a statement-making neck choke (thank you, Kendall Jenner!) to ooze a hint of in-your-face sass. The athleisure trend will continue to dominate so time to say hello to a pair of high-top sneakers preferably in whites as they complement almost every ensemble under the sun!
If you aren’t a sneakers girl then you may want to up your shoe game by inculcating heel-less wedges, wedge sandals and wedge booties, which will be eclipsing your closet shelves too. Let your accessories game be on-point with a panoply of oversized totes, cross body slings and bucket bags which are likely to rule in 2017 and we have Balenciaga, Lemaire and Loewe to blame for that.
Pink in different tones will be huge – rose pink, dusty pink and fuschia pink. Or when was it out really? The likes of Valentino, Gucci and J Mendel have flirted with this romantic hue in their Pre-fall 2017 offerings like never before and it has also trickled down to high street labels! Most importantly have fun with fashion, be yourself as you juggle work and social commitments.
