Cannes – Wow Factor Missing

The red carpet at the Cannes film festival has come to be one of the most anticipated fashion runways for us in India what with some of our leading Bolly stars gracing the Riviera. Personally I felt the oomph factor was missing with most celebs keeping it safe and simple at Cote d’Azur for the annual festival this time around.

Elie Saab, Ralph Russo and Oscar de la Renta seemed to be the clear favorites with our stars.

The focus for the Indian media at Cannes is always Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. I must say Ash did make some good choices – different from how she usually turns out at the Riviera. Her look was much appreciated and she did make heads turn. Her all white business look in Stella McCartney was refreshing and her gorgeous chakra gown was actually hot!!! Although  I didn’t quite fancy her in the emerald green Elie Saab – did nothing for her actually – her appearance in a structured Ralph Russo with origami-like folds and black geometric motifs was stunning. Her Oscar  de la Renta dress that she wore to the media call for her comeback film was also nice and a good change.

Sonam who is known as a fashionista didn’t quite get me impressed at first – her Ralph Russo cobalt blue dress was ok and not very flattering to her body. Her Elie Saab dress reminded me of a bird – both her looks were so not her usual style and I felt she became a victim of her own experimentation. However, I simply loved her in Abu-Sandeep’s ivory saree with a very risqué low cut blouse. It was a stunner!!! I also found the butterfly back gold dress that she wore for the Chopard party by Abu Sandeep quite a stunner!!!

Katrina played it so safe & simple that she made no impact at all. I wish she had experimented a bit. Her white and black Milly crop top turned heads and was impressive but her Oscar de la Renta was not dramatic and looked very drab and so did her Elie Saab red dress – she just failed to make any impact.

In conclusion I’d say the appearances were chic for sure, but the fizz was amiss and the drama was just not there!
