The 69th Cannes Film Fest was a ménage à trois of pastel tones, peekaboo cut-works and heavily embellished gowns. Besides the rich surface texturing and voluminous capes and trains, statement-making jewellery was the highlight – it was hard not to miss Sonam Kapoor’s Suhani Pitti’s earrings.
Talking of Sonam, the stylissma wreaked quite a sartorial epiphany as soon as she arrived at Cannes by wearing an edgy and metallic blue sari which she paired with a pair of sunnies. Standing tall against Cannes azure sky, the futuristic sheen of her pallu added gravitas to her ensemble.
Opting for many Ralph & Russo numbers this time, the talented duo – Sonam and her stylist sis Rhea proved yet again that they own the Cannes red carpet. The style-savvy Miss Kapoor cut many a striking silhouette in custom-made Ralph & Russo gowns. Another actress who stood out in this label was British-Thai beauty Araya Hargate.
Naomi Watts was a vision in an off-shoulder lilac embellished Armani Prive gown and a pregnant Blake Lively gave back-to-back winning looks in Versace, Giambattista Valli and Vivienne Westwood. Julianne Moore and Kendall Jenner made quite a mark in shimmery Cobra-inspired Givenchy and serpent-inspired Cavalli couture dresses respectively.
On the other hand, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Ali Younes couture embellished outfit invited a lot of debate online with many questioning its aesthetic and overall styling. Ash also faced some heavy-duty vitriolic lip-lashing due to her peculiar lip colour pick. She was actually promoting the beauty brand’s new range she endorses. However, it did attract the ire of the fashion police.
Eva Longoria cut a fine figure in a white pantsuit which she wore with polished confidence and gold tinted reflector sunnies. Her Pamella Rolland number which had a sweeping train was another winner.
Julia Roberts looked like a million bucks in an off-shoulder Armani and Amal Clooney accented her pale yellow gown with a red lip and of course, her best accessory George Clooney. Bianca Balti’s tiered Alberta Ferretti was quite fantasy-whipping. Throughout the fest, Kristen Stewart stayed loyal to Chanel and Kirsten Dunst played the Gucci muse to the hilt. All in all a cauldron of unapologetic glamour and schmooze fest!
