The sea breeze blowing ever so gently….romance was in the air…..2016 definitely began on a roll. From the sun-kissed beaches of Goa amidst a vivacious bunch of friends to sun-downer parties with a delectable spread of irresistible lobsters and flowing champagne….that surely was one helluva fun destination wedding! Of course the sunset lining the beach and the stars that make up the natural setting of a beach wedding, it all added up.
My prepping for attending this beach wedding was on from weeks before but of course. I have always loved playing dress up and here was an opportunity for me to yet again dress up for a wedding albeit differently. You know how beach weddings deviate from the traditional weddings, in a way it takes on a more relaxed atmosphere. Tradition takes a humble bow.
Weddings which were once a formal affair have now begun to embrace a carefree approach. Beach weddings in particular, have gained importance and favoritism. They boast a bohemian feel along with glamour and fun.
Well I did have to keep a few things in mind for this wedding in order to remain comfortable yet formal enough for this non-traditional wedding. Being a beach destination, the weather was surely going to be humid. So I opted for light fabrics like muls, chanderis, georgettes & lace – light weight yet luxurious.
While choosing the hues I decided to embrace the sights & sounds of the surf and turf around. Aquamarine, turquoise, sand, terracotta, fuchsia, lime green, tangerine and even sunflower are appropriate tones for a beach wedding. My choice of colours was of course predominantly whites pinched with fuchsias and sunflowers. Tie & dyes and floral prints also make for great choices. I did a couple of my outfits in them too.
Deciding the silhouettes I had to make sure that they kept me comfortable in the outdoors – after all it is the ground rule to a beach wedding. Shararas were then, my go to choices –
they add a lot of drama, look opulent and are easy to walk around in. Kurtas teamed with palazzos are yet another ideal bet for a beach wedding. While these silhouettes are comfortable and do have their own charm, no woman should be denied of the obvious sensuality that a skirt renders. I teamed mine with a corset – simple, classy yet stylish! Of course for the after parties I had my dresses in cool prints – the fluid fabrics bring the sensuality as the breeze billows.
Being a beachy affair I had to give my high heels a rest and opt for stylish wedges instead. With my hair always pulled back (I didn’t want it blowing wild in the wind after all) and a matte makeup (to avoid the glistening look due to the humidity) I rocked the nights away.
Ohh what fun it was! And now as I am back to the hustle and bustle of the hectic Mumbai life, I am elated with the numerous compliments for my apt dressing to a beach wedding….
